Not many positive things can be said about a woman who is a "gold digger," someone — stereotypically women — who seeks wealthy partners solely to increase their own wealth, materialistic needs, and status. But, what about the man who uses expensive material things to pick up women? According to a recent study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, "Just as peacocks flaunt their tails before potential mates, men may flaunt flashy products to charm potential dates." Typically, the study states, a woman can see right through this ploy and often times the man is viewed as someone who is only interested in a temporary fling or uncommitted sex.
This prank demonstrates this dynamic very well. The prankster, Vitaly, at first, appears as your average, run-of-the-mill male trying to pick up a girl. She is not interested and politely rejects him. That is, until he gets into his Lamborghini. Her tone quickly changes as she trips over her words to ask him out. Before he speeds off, he rejects her advances by stating, "Too bad. I don't like gold diggers." Although funny, this video exposes something very interesting about men, women, and the laws of attraction.
According to evolutionary psychologists, who have long claimed that the following general preferences in human mating are universal and based on biology, — Men seek youth and beauty, while women focus on wealth and status. Does this remain true? Read more at Time.com's, "When Men Stop Seeking Beauty and Women Care Less About Wealth."
